Lily is named for the shallow pool and fountain in the Boston Common that area children play in during the summer. It was the scene of the formal introduction of water from the new aqueduct into Boston on the 25th of October 1848, part of a new municipal water system in the city. When the gates were opened, water shot out of the fountain 40 feet into the air to the cheers of thousands of onlookers. In the winter, from November to mid March, the Frog Pond is turned into an ice skating rink where you can enjoy an afternoon of skating for only $4.00. In 2004, Lily was christened by Boston Duck Tours very own, Major Groovy at our Prudential Center Duck Stop. Major Groovy came up with the name of “Frog Pong Lily”.
